After installing appcelerator,does it require a continuous internet connection?

I am new to appcelerator.When i try to compile app after making any small change it is taking too much time to upload on device ? My device specification Ipad Mini iOS 7,Mac OS Yosemite 10.10, Appcelerator Studio, build: 4.0.1.201506021908

Also does appcelerator compile offline rather does it require internet continously? at Home i don't have an internet connection..will appcelerator work ?
