altering navbar in tabgroup for 3.2

A simple task but having trouble in just altering the color of navbar. Coming from a tabgroup in app.js and going to a currentWindow, I set the modal to true and false and navBarHidden to false yet the barColor does not work. Any suggestion on best practice to altering height, color, font of navbars? Do I need to create a separate view for this task or titleControl? I used tabgroup at the moment for android.
