Titanium Studio hangs on first new mobile project

I just installed Appcelerator for the first time. Computer is Dell, 4 GB RAM, Windows 7-SP1.

Titanium Studio 3.2.1 installed without any errors. It installed whatever version of JDK and Node.js it wanted to on Friday. Titanium Studio starts up fine. It ran the updates without any errors. I installed the Andoid SDK without any problems.

That is where success ends. I'm unable to create a Mobile App Project.

Attempts always cause Titanium Studio to hang.

I tried this three ways: File -> New -> Mobile App Project File -> New -> Project ... , Select Mobile App Project, Next File -> New -> Project ... , Open Titanium Folder, Select Mobile App Project, Next

The result is always the same: Titanium Studio becomes unresponsive. Even after many minutes of waiting it remains unresponsive. There are no errors.

When I use File -> New -> Project ..., Select General, Project. The generic project is created fine without delay (and of course without content).

I tried creating a new (short path) workspace and changing to that workspace. This made no difference.

I assume the hang is happening at a point where it is trying to communicate with servers to get the base files. In the lower-right corner, Titanium Studio has my name with a green checked shield, which I assume indicates it has my login credentials. I tried clicking the name which apparently logged me out. I then restarted and re-logged in. No difference.

I searched this forum and see many similar issues, most of which are years old, but that include a crash. I was not able to find any like this where Titanium Studio always hangs on Mobile Project App creation.
